Genesis 11

The Tower of Babel

11At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words.H776H259H8193H259H16972As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babyloniac and settled there.H5265H6924H4672H1237H776H8152H34273They began saying to each other, "Let's make bricks and harden them with fire." (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)H559H376H7453H3051H3835H3843H8313H8316H3843H68H2564H1961H25634Then they said, "Come, let's build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world."H559H3051H1129H5892H4026H7218H8064H6213H8034H6327H6440H7765But the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.H3068H3381H7200H5892H4026H1121H120H11296"Look!" he said. "The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!H3068H559H5971H259H259H8193H2490H6213H3808H3605H1219H2161H62137Come, let's go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won't be able to understand each other."H3051H3381H1101H8193H834H8085H376H7453H81938In that way, the LORD scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.H3068H6327H8033H6440H776H2308H1129H58929That is why the city was called Babelc, because that is where the LORD confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.H8034H7121H894H3068H1101H8193H776H6327H3068H6327H6440H776
